Teaching is not what it used to be!!
Not only has teaching changed, but parents and student behavior has really gone awry. It
used to be that parents would come to you when their child got into trouble and ask what they did wrong. Now the parents come in griping that you are being unfair to their kid. Behavior is beginning to be uncontrollable. We have parents that don’t spend time with their kids and can’t control them. As teachers, we are expected to control them in the classroom even though they are used to doing what they want at home. Does that really work? NOT all the time!!
There is also so many new things added to your workload. You now have PLC’s, committees and standard based report cards to deal with. You have to remember what medications each special ed. or 504 student has so you can give him/herĀ all the benefits of learning. You are limited to how many things you can copy or print. Supplies are limited unless you want to purchase them yourself.
Teaching is not a 7:30-3:30 job. Most people don’t realize that so many these things are done after the kids leave or after they get home.
